About this artwork
As a child I dreamed of being able to inhabit the forest, to live there independently in perfect harmony with the surrounding fauna and flora. Through my readings on the role of the forest in various tales and legends, notably in the myth of Brocéliande, I developed an imagination in a more or less close relationship with a somewhat forgotten and transcendent nature. In this work which presents a landscape like a closed door, the horizon reveals… a hint of forest in a dawning glow while the ground presents a smooth surface absorbing the light and merging with the sky. I wanted to create a landscape giving off an atmosphere of mystery, playing on the ambiguity between dawn and dusk. The acrylic paint used in washes and glazes includes a mixture of Hooker's Green and Cadmium Yellow as well as Mars Black and Payne's Gray.
Luc Andrieux is an artist based in France whose works have been presented in several solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally. For him, painting is like a vital necessity. Through his compositions, Andrieux's goal is to generate a questioning contemplation, to freeze time and to induce an atmosphere suggested by the hidden face of the elements. His abstractions, landscapes and figurative works are most often created using acrylics on canvas, oil being reserved for the treatment of more complex effects. Luc Andrieux does not limit himself to a particular style or theme that would limit his expression but chooses those that are most in line with his vision of the moment.
