About this artwork
The picture is about drifters or people floating in a raft. We all know the pictures of people fleeing across the ocean.
These can be refugees from Libya and Africa, from Syria or Vietnam. These people are also called boat people. But Ludwig Plotter is of the opinion that we are all drifters in the big world barge..... :
The name is based on the song by the Norwegian singer Wencke Myhre: "He has a bright red rubber boat".
The iconography is based… on the archetype of the raft image, the raft of the Medusa, by Th. Gericault.
And basically it's always the same story....
The elites - hollow and corruptible - steer the ship into the sinking.... In the case of the Medusa, these were the newly installed Bourbon officers in 1816, who left 147 people on a raft, but themselves disappeared to safety in the lifeboats....
And our world is also a raft, a world barque.....

Ludwig Plotter is an award-winning artist based in Germany whose paintings have been feautred in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally. Through his distinctive works, he explores themes relating to nature and all that flows within it. For Plotter, there is no difference between technique and painting, just as there is no difference between art and science. He primarily creates with oils, tempera, resin, spray paint, and gouache on canvas.
