About this artwork
This work, created between 1995 and 2016, deals with the hydrodynamics of hammerhead sharks. In the fluid beings series, the painter Ludwig Plotter deals with the propulsion currents of sharks (elasmobranches) and "normal" cooking fish (teleostei), eg tuna. Fluid beings are beings that move by means of eddy currents. In nature, energy is used sparingly. All of these beings have special fins to make the propulsion flow along the body as friction-free…
or as quiet as possible. One can only speculate about the hammerhead shark's odd wing-like head shape; such as the fact that the wing-like head improves the shark's maneuverability or perception. The two sharks are also somewhat reminiscent of gliders circling in thermals, which also represent a kind of technical "fluid beings". The overall appearance of the picture with the spherical horizon picture is reminiscent of both flying and swimming....
