About this artwork
"What A Mess I Am" is a monumental abstract landscape that captures the forest at the edge of dawn. Part of the Blinkered series, the work explores a moment of deep silence and anticipation. Interestingly, this piece was born from a creative mishap; Lukasz Olek intended it for his own bedroom, but in a state of distraction, he used a much larger linen canvas than planned. The resulting work was so vast it no longer fit its intended wall—a situation… reflected in the self-deprecating title.
The artist uses a synesthetic approach, translating the rustle of the forest into deep turquoises and earthy underlayers. Technically, the painting is a dialogue between vibrant colors and systematic "toning down" through glazes and aggressive scraping. Olek’s commitment to the "honesty of the material" is evident in the raw 3D linen texture. His works are held in private collections worldwide, from New York to Paris, proving that even a "mess" can result in profound, balanced harmony.
« A cup of coffee should be plainly distinguishable from a cup of dirty water from brushes. »
