About this artwork
One really needs more time in Paris. After visiting the Picasso museum we ended up in Montmartre in time for the sunset with so much inspiration flowing, you could see the way the city comes to life with light and warmth. This painting attempts to capture that moment between the day and night, between the dog and the wolf as the French say.
Luke Hey is an accomplished Australian painter, trained at the University of Newcastle and Newcastle Art College, who has been creating professionally since 2003. His technique is a fusion of thick, impressionistic colors and the calculated structure of cubism, drawing on time-honored oil painting traditions. With compositions inspired by city life, nature, and vibrant cultural scenes, his work strives to evoke both dazzling harmony and a sense of mystery, inviting viewers to discover hidden layers over time. Once I finished art school and university I hit the ground running, being introduced and accepted into a commercial gallery and beginning a career of travels and exhibiting. Like many Australian artists I decided to live and work in Europe and am currently based in Prague, Czech Republic.
