About this artwork
My mother's tortilla is part of my Ex-quisitas collection.
Who says there's only one mother? Mothers are the ones who take care of you, the ones who love you, the ones who support you, the ones who educate you, the ones who shape you, and the ones who give you affection and want the best for you.
It refers to the movie: “Parallel Mothers”
The work is painted on canvas, but to achieve that texture of an old handmade plate, I reproduced the texture… of imperfection based on old handmade earthenware, where the bubbling of the glaze created those "little grains" so characteristic of that type of baking.
This work, and almost all of my works painted so far, are painted with an airbrush, a technique that is rarely used due to its difficult handling, which makes them even more exclusive and special.
Luz de la Calle is a Spanish artist trained in illustration and specializing in airbrush painting, with a solid career in Valladolid and international experience. She uses airbrushing to create delicate gradients, fusing pop surrealism with touches of kitsch, imbued with sweetness, elegance, and original motifs, where female figures and large-eyed animals predominate. Her works convey a deep emotional connection, addressing feelings, nostalgia, and social issues, always accompanied by humor and authenticity, inviting reflection and empathy.
