About this artwork
Guided Steps is the second work in Ly Tran’s ongoing series “Touch”, which explores relationships and emotional bonds through moments of physical contact.
This painting portrays a father’s hand gently holding his child’s, guiding the first uncertain steps into the world. Rather than focusing on identity or facial detail, the artist emphasizes movement, pressure, and direction — the language of touch itself.
Thick, intertwined brushstrokes create… a sense of motion and support, where the child’s tentative energy meets the steady strength of the parent. The abstracted forms dissolve into one another, suggesting trust, protection, and the quiet confidence passed from one generation to the next.
Guided Steps reflects the idea that every journey begins not alone, but through a touch that leads, reassures, and allows us to move forward.
Ly Tran is a Vietnamese-American painter educated in Moscow, influenced by the cultural intersections of Vietnam, Russia, and the United States. With a multidisciplinary background in painting, graphics, sculpture, and photography, her work merges abstraction with impressionism and expressionism.
Her paintings feature bold color, rich texture, and a balance between geometric structure and organic gesture. Each composition conveys movement and emotional energy, inviting reflection on human connection, memory, and transformation.
Ly Tran has exhibited across the United States. In 2023, she presented her solo exhibition “Đa Sắc (Colorful)” in Hanoi and participated in international exhibitions throughout Southeast Asia. She received the Best Artwork Award at the BON VOYAGE – Freedom and Love International Art Exhibition 3.0 in Borobudur, Indonesia. In 2025, her work was shown in Vietnam and Europe, including “Hello Vietnam” and “Sparkling Vietnam” in Vienna.
