About this artwork
This work was originally exhibited in Manchester 2017 and was part of a group show based around Italo Calvino's book Invisible Cities.
The title 'Ersilia' comes from a chapter in the book where the narrator describes a city and it's people who are enshrined by threads of different colours that represent separate aspects of their culture/status and heritage. The source image originates from a scene that was taken outside the city walls in Marrakech… and continues the exploration of chairs from an earlier series Ease of Use.
