Lynn Bushell, a painter educated at Edinburgh University and College of Art, works primarily in oils and is deeply influenced by the rich colorful tradition and Fauvist legacy of Scottish painting. Her technique merges representational and semi-abstract styles—landscapes inspired by the Normandy coastline, and themed works that reimagine art historical masterpieces in contemporary situations. Through her evocative palettes and inventive scenes, she invites viewers to contemplate both place and memory. The rich colour and texture of the paint surface is of prime importance to her. “I want the spectator to follow the physical and mental process of creating the painting with me. Sometimes I might have painted it over half a dozen times, leaving a small area which ‘works’ to contribute to the next layer. I love this sense of a painting changing and growing over time."
