About this artwork
"Talisman" is the third work in my new series, the creations of which are currently underway. Technically and pictorially, this piece is more reminiscent of my work as a decorative painter. In fact, it could be considered a sample of a wall covering technique. Conceptually, it references the sand money found on beaches, both in its shape and the sand-colored plaster. Sand money has several legends, including that of being the currency of mermaids...

Mance, a graduate in visual arts, spent 20 years working in interior design as a decorative painter and then as a designer. Her work has been published in several design magazines. With extensive experience in creating frescoes and murals, as well as in faux-finish and wall plastering techniques, she has been applying this knowledge to her paintings, to which she has dedicated herself full-time since 2016. A recipient of a Francophone painters' competition, her works have been introduced to the international market through participation in art fairs in San Francisco, Paris, and London. Several of her paintings were sold, but this venture came to an end in 2020 with the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, she has been exhibiting solo in Quebec, in the Laurentians region where she lives. An 18-month hiatus allowed her to focus her pictorial representations on introspective imagery that evokes the spiritual dimension of being.
