About this artwork
ICAROS is a giant feathered wing. Icarus having fallen from the sky by approaching too close to the sun while his wings had been fixed with wax by his father Daedalus who had nevertheless warned him... he burned his wings and fell. The fall of Icarus is one of the scenes represented many times by the masters of ancient and classical art. Here the wing of Icarus is black symbolizing calcination, burning.
The wing is made to be hung from the ceiling… by a fishing line anywhere in a room but I recommend an angle. The inclination of the wing can be chosen differently if one wants to express flight or fall.
It was exhibited at the Brownstone Foundation (Paris) during an exhibition in 2021 and is a unique copy.

Manuela Morgaine is a multidisciplinary artist. Through her production structure, ENVERS COMPAGNIE, since 1991, she has created performances, installations, cinema, literature, photography and sculptures. Prix de Rome winner in scenography, she shapes each work according to the subject, using various materials, including ice and lead. Her works reveal a constant commitment and deliver dense messages. Her art evokes a call not to lose one's voice, to bear witness for memory.
