About this artwork
Nofretete-Taduschepa vermählt sich deshalb mit dessen Sohn und Nachfolger, Amenophis IV. Ihr Name wird in "Nofretete" umgeändert, was so viel bedeutet wie: "Die Schöne, die da kommt".
Nofretete war die Hauptgemahlin des Königs Echnaton und lebte im 14. Jahrhundert v. Chr.
Nofretete als Mitregentin
In der nun beginnenden Amarna-Epoche spielte sie sowohl im religiösen als auch politischen Leben eine bedeutende Rolle. Die generell starke Position der… Frau im Alten Ägypten wurde unter Echnaton für Nofretete besonders gesteigert. Sie wurde zu einer Art Mitregentin gemacht und, zumindest symbolisch, mit der pharaonischen Macht ausgestattet. Die berühmte blaue Krone auf der Büste ist die eigens für Nofretete entwickelte Hohe Krone und bildet ein Gegenstück zum Chepresch ab, einen Kriegshelm. Normalerweise vom König allein ausgeführte symbolische oder rituelle Handlungen wurden nun auch von der Königin vollzogen.
