About this artwork
Inspired by the Wabi Sabi theory of finding beauty in the underappreciated, this work is an assembly of evocative and contrasting natural materials: burnt wood, sea-smoothed wood, marble dust mixed with stucco, gold acrylic, and glass tiles. In my work, I have combined collage and gilding to explore the intense contrast between shining gold and deep black. Elements of nature and everyday objects are fused together, inviting the viewer to appreciate… the intrinsic beauty of the seemingly worthless things that surround us. This work will bring a bold and provocative energy to your home, a constant reminder of the beauty hidden in simple things.
I have always loved painting but my educational and professional paths led me to teach for 42 years. When I became an art teacher I felt legitimized to consider myself a painter and to search for my artistic identity. I began to exhibit in local galleries, then national ones. Receiving positive feedback, I expanded to international contexts such as the Luxembourg Art Prize, or the MEAM in Barcelona and others. I often paint women as protagonists capable of bringing their positivity and courage even in difficult and dramatic contexts. I am attracted by the wonder of nature in all its aspects. My work often combines acrylic color with fabrics through collage. It was the discovery of Mickalene Thomas's works that inspired me to experiment with this path. Fabric can enrich what I imagine. Its textures, its yarns, the different consistencies, the beautiful colors, have transformed and enriched my palette.
