About this artwork
had a vision and I am very excited to say it came through the way I saw it in my mind.
When I started I called it “Fighting Depression and Anxiety “ because it depicts Depression and Anxiety as women who try to get a hold on the woman on the painting.
However as the painting took life of its own I feel calling it that would box it up into a one perspective/story and I don’t want to do that.
I have asked the opinion of people very knowledgeable about… art and they have given me their perspectives and I find it is amazing when the viewer can take the painting completely somewhere else and it still makes sense!
And so I have named it “Stigma”

Mara Szyp is an experienced artist from Canada whose paintings have been featured in solo and group shows nationally. Influenced by her mother's artistic gifts, Szyp developed her own practice later in life as a means of healing, and found her main source of inspiration as the sea. Working mainly in oil and acrylics, she paints colorful nude portraiture and seascapes in soft color palettes.
