About this artwork
As an inveterate nomad, home is wherever my books are. To keep that anchor, I designed a modular library that adapts to any space.
Born from that nomadic library that followed me through six moves, The Abstract Library bridges personal memory and geometric abstraction. Inspired by MADI art, these 3mm aluminum hexagonal paintings are life-size isometric projections of my bookshelf modules, maintaining their signature 3=2 proportion and overlapping… depth. They convey a clear sense of volume in their two dimensions.
As reading goes digital, the boundaries between the boxes' inside and outside dissolve into fluid, textured color fields. Using a curated palette of seven colors, I instinctively compose these pieces to radiate harmony and positive energy. They offer collectors an adaptable, sculptural dialogue between form, memory, and space.
Marc Dentand is a Franco-Swiss conceptual and visual artist who works primarily in installation and mixed media, drawing from a rich background in finance, business, and nomadic living. He employs minimalist aesthetics, geometric forms, and architectural influences, using meticulous compositions and innovative material choices to dissect the complexities of power, technology, and migration. Dentand’s works radiate a cool elegance and provoke reflection on society’s contradictions, imbuing viewers with a quietly unsettling sense of beauty shot through with the anxieties of our contemporary world.
