With his non-representational paintings, Marc Schmitz takes a position that stands out emphatically from the trends prevailing in current painting and at the same time builds on a tradition that began at the beginning of the past century and has evoked contradicting disputes to the present day. Since Kasimir Malevitsch put his black square on a white background - according to his words "[...] the bare icon of my time [...]… the royal in its sparse words" - variously motivated artists have tried to place the hegemony of color over the mimetic image . In Malevich's assertion that every painterly surface is “more alive than any face with a few eyes and a smile. Marc Schmitz is an award-winning conceptual multi-disciplinary artist based in Berlin and Ulaanbaatar.
