About this artwork
In this work, I fuse reclaimed materials to create a sculpture that questions and celebrates both travel and personal narratives. Elements such as wood, textiles and organic objects come together to evoke a sphere of discovery and mystery. Each incorporated object carries a story, an imprint of the past, which together form a visual dialogue about renewal and transformation. This sculpture inspires us to contemplate the richness of our journeys,…
with an energy that will enrich any living space with a unique tactile and visual depth. The central element of this sculpture is a baobab fruit shell on which is anchored a head of the traveling woman made of resin clay. The other elements are a piece of African acacia pod, a piece of plant fiber called Tapa and some various seeds. Finally, by engraving and painting the baobab fruit, I materialized time zones and borders.
