About this artwork
This miniature oil painting references the ephemeral quality of time, as symbolized by the goldfish. Time passes and much changes, little remains the same. Simultaneously some aspects of life are saved onto the hard drive of past time and the images of a woman’s hairstyle from the 19th century or the age-old Chinese porcelain filled with apples from today express this idea.

Marcella Lassen is an experienced artist based in Switzerland whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in Germany and Austria. In her most recent works, she explores themes including the ephemeral, how the passage of time underlies every aspect of life, the icons of society, and nature. While her compositions are vividly contemporary, Lassen employs the traditional techniques of the old masters.
