About this artwork
This is an image of a photo-shopped version of Bronzino's Venus and illustrates how young girls are willing to go through fire to attain the perfect figure. Simultaneously, the dual reference to two different standards of beauty in two different centuries underscores its fleeting nature.

« The driving force behind my work has always been the constant pursuit of a more succinct expression of what the ongoing exploration into cultural icons reveals. »
Marcella Lassen is an experienced artist based in Switzerland whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in Germany and Austria. In her most recent works, she explores themes including the ephemeral, how the passage of time underlies every aspect of life, the icons of society, and nature. While her compositions are vividly contemporary, Lassen employs the traditional techniques of the old masters.
