About this artwork
This image shows a portrait of Daisy in the famous novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, which was filmed in 2013. The man's arm and hand holding a cloud refers to a symbolic portrayal of Daisy's life situation-- her dreams are being controlled by someone else. Daisy is in fact a direct reference to Fitzgerald’s wife, Zelda.

« The driving force behind my work has always been the constant pursuit of a more succinct expression of what the ongoing exploration into cultural icons reveals. »
Marcella Lassen is an experienced artist based in Switzerland whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in Germany and Austria. In her most recent works, she explores themes including the ephemeral, how the passage of time underlies every aspect of life, the icons of society, and nature. While her compositions are vividly contemporary, Lassen employs the traditional techniques of the old masters.
