About this artwork
In this painting, I depict the figure of a man in a synthetic yet expressive form, built on decisive lines and a deliberate deformation of shapes. I work with a cool palette of blues and turquoises, setting them against an intense, almost pulsating orange background. This contrast allows the figure to gain a near-monumental presence, while the reduced detail and strong linear structure draw attention to the symbolic dimension of the composition.…
The man covers his face with his hand — a gesture I chose to evoke a sense of modesty, a reluctance to confront contemporary reality, or a wish to hide from its gaze. The cup in his other hand introduces a quiet, everyday element, grounding the scene while adding a subtle layer of psychological tension.
Through this work, I reflect on the condition of the modern individual: the pull between participating in the world and withdrawing from it, the effort to protect one’s identity in the face of overwhelming stimuli and constant scrutiny.
« Every time I start a new painting, I can't wait to see the result. When I finish, I can't wait to start a new one. »
Marcin Lenczowski is a Polish artist whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally. His artistic expression focuses on individuals who are often portrayed in opposition to broader society. Lenczowski's compositions express feelings of alienation, loneliness, and the need for self-expression in juxtaposition to the environment, and the preservation of identity in modern society. He emphasizes minimalistic methods, including
strong contouring and contrasting colors, "rather than imposing the meaning of art".
