About this artwork
“Three Sisters" was created as an attempt to capture the tension between similarity and difference, between closeness and solitude. While painting it, I was thinking about how people can be inseparable in space, and yet immersed in their own inner worlds. I chose a simplified, geometric form because I did not want to portray specific individuals – I was more interested in the idea, the symbol, the echo of recurring human experiences. The title is… a deliberate reference to Chekhov, to his melancholy and longing for another life that never arrives. The changing color of the figures’ hair I see as a metaphor for the passage of time, the continuous cycle from youth to old age. It is a painting about the bonds that unite us, and the solitude we cannot escape – about the rhythm of existence, in which each of us is separate, yet inseparably intertwined with others.
« Every time I start a new painting, I can't wait to see the result. When I finish, I can't wait to start a new one. »
Marcin Lenczowski is a Polish artist whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally. His artistic expression focuses on individuals who are often portrayed in opposition to broader society. Lenczowski's compositions express feelings of alienation, loneliness, and the need for self-expression in juxtaposition to the environment, and the preservation of identity in modern society. He emphasizes minimalistic methods, including strong contouring and contrasting colors, "rather than imposing the meaning of art".
