About this artwork
"Prisoners" is a unique work of its kind. it is one of the artist's first works and has been selected for numerous contests and exhibitions, including the 2013 National Arts Award.
It contains a self-portrait of the artist in his academic years of study and represents a testimony of great value.
The work was created from a real abacus owned by the artist since childhood, subsequently oversized to make it look like a prison.
"Prisoners" speaks… to us of a humanity enslaved by numbers, of all that can be counted, from days, money, time, people ...
The figure behind the "bars" looks at us as if to ask us for help or to give us a warning.

« Art is the most effective antidote to the poison of existence. »
Marco Corridoni is a painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been featured in several solo exhibitions nationally. His artistic practice focuses on "human investigation". Through this overarching theme, he explores concepts relating to freedom, conscience, and the dark sides of the soul. Yet, Corridoni also portrays the "incredible beauty that it contains". His figurative compositions combine hyper-realistic drawings with other materials such as wood, metal, plaster, etc.
