About this artwork
“I've seen things you humans wouldn't be able to tell you about in your entire lifetime,” says the replicant Roy Batty at the end of Blade Runner. With that monologue, we understand how the android has become “more human than humans” in that he is capable of experiencing profound emotions.
We could say that the android is endowed with MAKOTO, which, in Japanese, refers to "sincere truth," or the concept of living authentically, without masks and… with dedication. It therefore means that the android has reached inner truth, is truly itself, authentic and free from pretense.
So the android aims his gun and shoots the human, who is no longer human and, therefore, more fake than the fake itself. The true truth rests solely with nature, which creates the scene, transforming it into a perverse game in search of a truth that, perhaps, doesn't exist.
Marco Savio masterfully navigates painting, sculpture, photography, and design, drawing on a solid artistic and architectural background. He uses natural materials and found objects to create readymades with a pop-conceptual spirit, in which lettering and visual effects become modern haikus. His works, steeped in philosophy and poetry, explore the contrasts of contemporary society and invite spiritual rediscovery, conveying a sense of wonder, curiosity, and profound reflection on identity and reality.
