About this artwork
Noboru in Japanese means to rise, but also to rise, ascend, or generally to elevate. Here we see a humanoid being picked up and carried aloft by a golden balloon, yet also held by its own ground, from which it seems unable to detach itself. The tension that arises leads to the question: will we remain anchored to earthly materiality, or will we be able to abandon the myth of accumulating wealth to ascend and elevate ourselves to a purer spirituality?
