What a fantastic book. Moby Dick has always fascinated me and I thought about the strength, the determination, how his skin must have been marked by the harpoons and harpoons that tried to stop his life without succeeding. Moby Dick still swims free in the seas of our imagination.
To represent the wounds I used a dark red glass plate and for the whale's skin I used silver leaf scratched with a steel tip and painted with high temperature colours.… A long and meticulous engraving job. All enclosed in a sheet of crystal glass, to keep the precious silver leaf unaltered. The painting is ready and I put it in the oven where it reaches the melting temperature of 780 degrees and very slowly cools down for a cycle of approximately 30 hours. Finally I have the glass in my hand ready to be finished through the cold grinding process. The finished work is coupled to a wooden panel and finally framed.

Marco Scaramuzza, a multifaceted artist and master glassmaker, merges his love for Murano glass with his training as a painter. In addition to painting, he uses the techniques of glass fusing, lampwork and graffiti, enriching many of his works with precious silver leaves which become the canvas for his paintings.
