About this artwork
Social distancing
Burnt matches represent isolated people. Individuals end up "getting burned" without a real social life. Withdrawal leads to unhappiness and slowly atrophies the creative impulse that manifests itself through social contact.
Orpheus sitting on the ground leans and causes contact between matches (contact between individuals and social, also seen as an affectionate gesture of being together)
The little girl represents innocence… and naivety and guided by her feeling and her impulse she favors the need for contact between individuals. We are going through a critical period, in which this new culture of isolation, this culture of the virtual, this culture of the block and most of the things that are happening today, many of the things they want to impose on us, many of the things they are building is a anthropology of dehumanization and we are becoming prisoners of this culture of distance.

« The inspiration is the perception of a moment when we can do something. »
Marco Stocco, an Italian artist born in 1970, lives between Italy and Brazil. Self-taught and drawn to figurative art, he began his first paintings, often depicting enigmatic female forms and faces. Along his artistic journey, Marco moved to Brazil, where he currently resides. Initially, the pace and vibrant cultural diversity of Brazil shook him and almost disoriented him emotionally, but then, through observation, he perceived and grasped new, precious creative stimuli. Marco treasures all these stimulating inner experiences, which later lead him to express new sensations in his paintings. In 2009, he created "Orpheus," his "imaginary interior photojournalist," an enigmatic and contemplative character that represents himself, channeling these sensations into which he then materially expresses them on canvas.
