About this artwork
High in the Himalayan hills above Mcleod Ganj, home to the Dalai Lama, the trees and landscape are strewn with thousands of prayer flags. As you gaze up through them to the blue sky and snow covered mountains beyond they fly and dance fracturing the image beyond into a swirling vortex of colour and texture.
I wanted to create a painting that contained the energy of the landscape there. Fresh and full of vitality, layered and textured. I tried… to paint the final image in one all over attack lasting a full day, late into the evening ,in order not to allow that energy to dissipate.
The flags are hung to send off the prayers into the world beyond and I would like to think this painting contains some of the spiritual qualities of that sacred place.
