About this artwork
I created the elemental series in 1996, and began producing photo essays in 1997. Symbiosis, one of the first essays in the series, focuses on nature and the human element. I found in this image the representation of my form of expression, the essence of what I want to say. This image says it all in a simple, minimalist, and original way. Symbiosis, the comfort we can find in nature, demonstrating respect for fauna and flora, as well as for ourselves…
and our daily lives. The character is perfectly at ease, demonstrating all her affection, snuggling up against a fallen trunk on the path. I know that even that fallen, seemingly dead piece of tree will generate more life, protecting small animals and providing nutrients for thousands of beings that germinate and begin a new life. Photographed with transparent positive color film, Pentax 6x7cm camera. Originally scanned in 1997 using a high-resolution CMYK cylindrical Hell scanner. Original file allows for large prints on fine art paper.
