About this artwork
Original acrylic painting on canvas – 80 × 120 cm
In this original acrylic painting, I explore the depth, movement, and intensity of the color blue through countless flowing layers of paint. Partially transparent, partially opaque areas interlock and overlap, so that the colors blend gently into one another, creating a unique spatial depth on the surface.
The multi-layered application of paint creates a visual rhythm reminiscent of currents, water… movement, and flowing transitions. Luminous and darker shades of blue meet in soft gradients and bold brushstrokes. Depending on the light and viewing angle, new structures and subtle nuances constantly become visible.
The painting is painted with acrylic on canvas and set in a white wooden shadow gap frame, which emphasizes the modern effect and gives the work room to breathe.
Mareike Böhmer primarily uses acrylic paint on canvas or high-quality paper, incorporating pastels, oil pastels, acrylic pencils, and sand as textural elements. Her abstract, often minimalist works are created through layered application with palette knives, broad brushes, and wet washes, and are characterized by reduced, cool hues and dynamic textures. Her work creates a calm, clear atmosphere, inviting viewers to deep contemplation and inner balance.
