How have snakes lived since being expelled from paradise? Have we humans been the only ones expelled from paradise, or have all the creatures we live with on planet Earth, including the snakes themselves?
This picture wants to ask questions that no one else asks. Questions that can be heretical, artistic, creative, horizon-expanding or simply absurd. Questions like the eyes of the snakes that look motionless at the background of rows of houses in… picturesque holiday resorts like Venice or Casteldefells and silently search for answers... or have they already accepted their ignorance?
Maren Butzheinen, influenced by a family of artists and their background at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, draws on a repertoire that ranges from drawing and painting to photography and conceptual art. She creates impressive digital photomontages that are overlaid with abstract painting and graffiti, creating structures of deep ambiguity and complexity. Her seemingly surreal works, interwoven with an intense energy, resonate with allusions to the dissolution of the human spirit and promote a timeless, individual perception of the viewer.
