About this artwork
This work is a larger version, with colour, of the first in a series of three prints in which the movement flows from one print to the next and is also part of Ashman's 'Japanese Dancer' series. Margaret Ashman is a talented British photographer whose works have featured in prizes and exhibitions throughout the UK. Her principal themes include sign language, religion, spirituality and emotion, and recurring images include hands and human movement. She sources various materials to employ alongside her photography, including fabrics, wallpaper and books, and is especially influenced by Chisato Minamimura, a Japanese dancer who performed improvised routines for deaf people. Ashman's works appear sensitive, dreamlike and free.
