About this artwork
The liminal space between night and day which Dix observed as she took her daily walk gave her the space for reflection. She contemplates change, stability, the permanence or impermanence of the human existence while we navigate the challenging times of 2020. The juxtaposition of the dulling glow of the electric lights in this modernist structure and the bright and promising light of the new dawn are captured by Dix in this painting and remind the…
viewer of the reassuring resilience of the natural world and the joy of a new day.

« I aim to communicate the multitude of emotions that fill me as I explore the world, sharing the delight I get from always finding something that catches my eye. »
Margaret Dix is an Australian artist who has exhibited her paintings nationally. Her paintings begin with an observation of the landscape and culminate in depictions of what is remembered and imagined. Although the landscapes inspired in Dix's art may be recognizable, she is interested in creating space for viewers to engage in their own personal experience of "place". Her focus is on creating calm and reflective connections rather than realistic documentation.
