About this artwork
Gathering Power was painted beside a Michigan lake during the week of a funeral, made with the intention of bringing peace to the people who eat their meals in the cafeteria of the Old Brewery Mission, Montreal's shelter for the homeless population, where it hung for two months.
The turquoise field is built in multiple layers, greens and blues laid over each other until the depth becomes atmospheric. The orange mass in the upper left is densely worked… and impastoed at its darkest points. The drips running through the composition are intentional and structurally telling: the canvas was turned multiple times during painting, so the drips climb as much as they descend, a record of a surface that was in motion rather than fixed.
The circular mark beneath the orange grounds the energy above it, power gathering before it moves. Later placed in the Solar Plexus room of the Human Design Hotel project in Montreal, the painting brought stillness to a space designed to hold all human emotion.
Margaret Lipsey is a Montreal based abstract artist whose work moves between intuition, gesture, and emotional clarity. Her paintings hold the tension between structure and surrender, revealing the quiet force that rises when truth meets movement. Rooted in her background as a Reiki Grand Master and Human Design Consultant, her practice is shaped by presence, energetic precision, and embodied awareness. Color becomes resonance, line becomes intention, and each composition reflects a state of internal alignment expressed through form. Lipsey’s work appears in international publications and curated exhibitions, and her paintings are held in private collections across Canada, the United States, and Europe. She creates with devotion, depth, and a clear sense of purpose, offering collectors work that carries both aesthetic impact and grounded energetic presence.
