About this artwork
Green Mountain Moment works entirely within the blue-green family, moving from deep teal at the upper left through sage and aqua to pale sky blue across the lower field. The forms sweep in broad horizontal curves across the full width of the canvas, the composition opening outward rather than inward, the landscape orientation amplifying the sense of distance and breadth.
At the centre right, where the lines converge, a small wedge of warm taupe and… a narrow near-black passage are the only departures from the cool field surrounding them. They anchor the composition precisely where it needs weight, the one point of stillness in a painting otherwise given over to movement.
The black outline throughout separates tones close enough in value that without it they would simply merge, each zone of green given its distinct character by the line that keeps it from becoming its neighbour.
