About this artwork
In Veiled Gaze, I draped the subject’s face in a cascade of umber and indigo, letting only the eyes, those windows to the soul, break through the shadow. With luminous detail, they hold the viewer, anchoring the entire composition. Warm skin tones melt into cool, sculpted folds, built with layered glazes that reward close looking.
For me, this piece is about the fragile balance between hiding and being seen. I introduced an almost sculptural treatment… of form that echoes early modernist portraiture, yet remains distinctly contemporary in its psychological intensity. A meditation on the quiet power of observation.
