About this artwork
In her series "deep", Margit T. Schranner shows us works on wood that move on the border of non-objectivity. The figures in the pictures are hidden under deep layers of wax and can often be guessed only. A clear view of gestures or facial expression is denied to the viewer. A strong contrast to the shadowy figures are the carvings on the surface of the works. Fragments of writing or gestural movements are partly deeply embedded in the wax layers.

Margit T. Schranner is a passionate German painter and printmaker with national exposure. Her works are centered on illustrations of characters who appear as mere silhouettes, devoid of facial details or obvious personality traits. Blending instead into their environment, they encourage the viewer to contemplate ideas such as identity, memory and forgetting. Schranner uses opaque and transparent surfaces to create depth and movement, ultimately achieving both technical and conceptual balance in her explorations of humans and the world.
