About this artwork
Summers in the country were enchanted. In my grandparents' little house, a jewel of white stone, I spent fantastic days. I played with my dolls, talked to the plants and daydreamed. But there was a cactus, lonely and prickly. I wanted to hold it, but its thorns hurt me. I remember the frustration of that impossible friendship, the desire to comfort it and the bitterness of its rejection. Every evening I came home with my hands full of thorns, hiding…
them in my apron. My mother, patiently, removed the needles one by one, while I promised not to touch it again. But its melancholic charm attracted me irresistibly.
