About this artwork
Marie Danielle’s abstract line work is an expression of her creativity and spontaneity. After choosing a colour scheme for each piece, she works intuitively, dripping different colours of wax down the board to create a series of textured lines. These artworks can be hung vertically, reminiscent of a waterfall, or horizontally to invoke an image of a landscape. In some of these paintings, the lines are contained within circles traced with a bike road wheel; in others, the lines flow freely. Marie’s studio sits on the Lachine canal, a hub for spontaneous gestures and nature. This vibrant setting and Marie’s love of the outdoors come together in these large scale line works that are active yet calming.

Marie-Danielle Leblanc is a prize winning Canadian artist with international exposure. With an eye towards environmentalism, Leblanc work with encaustic, an ancient technique using molten beeswax and pigments — the same process the Greeks and Egyptians used over 2,000 years ago. Some of their encaustic paintings, like the Fayum portraits, are still perfectly vibrant today. Her work continues this tradition, but with a contemporary vision.
