Fishing boats returning to the magnificent, sun-drenched port of Essaouira. In the foreground, the characteristic blue fishing boats. In front of the boats, fishermen and strollers on the quayside. In the background, the houses, their white walls gleaming in the sunlight.
Seagulls swoop and swoop above the fish.
The painting is rendered in whites and blues to remain true to the colors of the harbor. The white is applied pure to give the impression… of intense sunlight. Touches of orange define the shadows, complementing the blues. The paint is applied thickly. The graphic elements are highlighted in places with fine lines of black ink.
