About this artwork
Two figures are sitting on a bench—perhaps a couple. Each is looking in their own direction, oblivious to the other's presence. They are simply side by side. They seem to have nothing left to say to each other. Their separation is not yet physical, but it is already intellectual. They no longer see the life around them.
The canvas is treated in cool colors – shades of blue and white warmed by the addition of ochre. The background is treated abstractly… so that each viewer can place the scene wherever they wish.
