About this artwork
During a trip to Brittany, I discovered the work of Maurice Le Scouezec. Returning to Provence, I wanted to create a work in memory of this painter, in an emblematic place, since it is the Place des Lices in Saint-Tropez, very close to where I live.
This is how I introduce a lot of humor into this work and tenderly mock the male gender, by painting a kind of matriarchy. Indeed, these bowls players are absolutely captivated by their game, detached… from the slightest worry, and cuddled by femininity, the roundness of the plane tree trunks, their enveloping branches...
This canvas is full of sensuality, lightness and mischief.
Coming from the pictorial tradition, Marie Josiane Blachon handles oil paint with mastery; his paintings exude the intimate and the atmospheric. His art, characterized by brushstrokes that structure and impasto with a knife that give life and relief, offers an ode to nature by capturing its rhythms and its light. Blachon's works evoke a deep emotion, tending towards an almost spiritual experience of the present, inviting a saving contemplation of nature.
