About this artwork
In this work, the artist represents a landscape of holm oaks and poppies, one of her passions, poppies in Castilla, a theme she has used throughout her artistic career, representing them in all the stages and styles through which her career has evolved. In this painting a cloudy sky is represented with some holm oaks on the horizon and in the foreground a spring landscape with poppies, highlighting in this work, a loose, gestural and fresh execution.… The painting is signed on the back so as not to interfere with the painting. The poppies represent for Negueruela the rebirth of life and the spirit of survival. The poppies arrive with the spring standing out on the green fields and despite the farmers' struggle to exterminate them, these fragile flowers make their way flooding the pictures. This motif allows the artist to carry out a chromatic exercise between abstraction and figuration without creative limits. Recent work by the author.
« Throughout my career, I have evolved through different stages, between new figuration and magicical realism, but always through my own style. »
Marietta Negueruela is an experienced artist based in Spain whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Italy and France. Her most recent works revolve around the landscape and are inspired by metaphysics, the Renaissance, and geometric forms. Color also plays a fundamental role in Negueruela's artistic practice. She primarily creates with watercolors, acrylics, and oils.
