Breaking Through brings together dense rows of hand-carved reliefs in deep blue and teal scales, undulating across the wood like a flowing current—until a pale ray of light slices diagonally across the surface, as if something were emerging from the weight of the water. The contrast between the dense, wave-like texture and this single burst of light gives the work a sense of silent, inevitable liberation.
Created using the artist's signature multi-layered… resin relief technique, each ridge is shaped and finished by hand, capturing ambient light differently depending on the angle—the surface continually shifting between cool, muted tones and brighter bursts where the light penetrates. Hand-signed on both sides—the reverse side bearing a short handwritten poem by the artist, an integral part of the piece. Comes with a certificate of authenticity featuring a QR code for authentication and a lifetime insurance seal.

Born in Riga in 1983, Maria Ruisi is an artist, researcher and artistic director of the Abstract Art Gallery, founded in 2010.
Her practice is rooted in sculptural abstraction — a multi-stage process combining acrylic, resin, and metallic pigments in three-dimensional relief. Each work is born from rigorous research into material, depth, and spatial perception.
Trained in fine arts and interior design, she has been developing a unique visual language for fifteen years: surfaces that breathe, forms that command silence.
