About this artwork
his idea for this painting in the gold leaf series was inspired by a photo I took on a visit to Japan just before this crazy locked down life took over. The photo was taken of a large and sprawling Peppercorn tree which looked to be quite ancient but when I looked at the picture later I had actually captured two Egrets high in the branches. These birds were often in the Japanese landscape some with blacks, greys and red but others beautifully white…
and regal. This painting like the others in the series pick up the influence of the Japanese Master painters with gold illuminating the painting in many different lights.
