About this artwork
In this image I used a variety of different shots of road markings putting them into panorama stitching software. This gritty composite abstract image was the result of subverting the purpose of the software.

For me photography is a process that can open a window into another world. I specialise in macro photography of botanical subjects. However I do not make scientifically correct images. I use fresh material from my garden and freeze the subjects in deionised water using Petri dishes or large ice cube trays. In a sense this process is a literal freezing of time, analogous to photography itself. Rather than producing ‘tack sharp’ images I use ice to create visual barriers, through bubbles, cracks and distortions to create a sense of other-worldly mystery. The viewer has to work harder to ‘read’ familiar plant forms making the act of seeing more conscious and deliberate. I am now starting to explore mixing deionised water with tap water in different proportions, and how this affects what is revealed and concealed.
