My photographic practice explores how familiar subjects can become unfamiliar when removed from their
expected contexts. Working across botanical forms, found urban surfaces and everyday objects, I use
photography as a means of transforming rather than simply recording what is in front of the camera.
I am drawn to subjects that might ordinarily pass unnoticed: the structure of a flower, fragments of road
markings, shadows, reflections, textures and incidental details of the built environment. Through close framing,
changes of scale, abstraction and isolation, their original function becomes less certain. A road marking can
begin to resemble an abstract painting; an ordinary object can acquire an unexpected sculptural presence; a
plant can become a landscape or an ambiguous organic form.
