About this artwork
I like making images from pansies as they are one of the few plants that flower through out the winter. In this image I used photo editing software to great a layered and vibrant picture. The blurred effect of the repeated and resized image creates a positive energy and a suggestion of movement. This artwork will bring dynamic vibrancy and a touch of mystery to any space.

For me photography is a process that can open a window into another world. I specialise in macro photography of botanical subjects. However I do not make scientifically correct images. I use fresh material from my garden and freeze the subjects in deionised water using Petri dishes or large ice cube trays. In a sense this process is a literal freezing of time, analogous to photography itself. Rather than producing ‘tack sharp’ images I use ice to create visual barriers, through bubbles, cracks and distortions to create a sense of other-worldly mystery. The viewer has to work harder to ‘read’ familiar plant forms making the act of seeing more conscious and deliberate. I am now starting to explore mixing deionised water with tap water in different proportions, and how this affects what is revealed and concealed.
