About this artwork
In 2023 I started working on my flower collection. Flowers always fascinated me with their distinctive colours and shapes. Peonies and roses are my favourite flowers and I am growing a few varieties in my garden. When it is summer you would find me in my garden with a camera - to take pictures, or with a spade or watering can. Gardening fills me with joy, while painting is almost a meditation.
This hyper-realistic painting depicts a beautiful white… peony in full bloom. Rich, dark foliage surrounds the blossom set against a vibrant cobalt blue background. Such composition creates a striking contrast that makes the luminous petals appear to glow. It took a few weeks to render all the subtle details in shading of the peony and leaves. At the very last stage I changed the background colour to darker shade of blue to enhance the contrast with white petals.
