About this artwork
"Otrada" (2012) is a picture imbued with the warmth of memories and the light of childhood. The beach near which I grew up in Odessa, and the lifeguard booth, which seemed monumental at the time. This corner of the sea is not just a part of the landscape, but a space of freedom, dreams and carefree days when time flowed differently.
Bright but muted shades of sand, water and sky convey the feeling of a hot summer day filled with sun and salty wind.… The simplicity of forms and composition makes the picture almost symbolic: this descent to the sea is like a bridge between the past and the present, between memories and reality.
Everyone who looks at this work can see in it his childhood, his shore, his "Joy". After all, everyone has a place where the soul feels at home.
